Enjoy TMJ Therapy Treatment in Northwest Indiana
You may not realize this, but two little joints in your jaw can have a dramatic impact on your oral and overall wellbeing. Known as your temporomandibular joints (TMJs), they not only connect your lower jaw to your temporal bone, they also make it possible for you to open and close your mouth easily. They don’t always work perfectly, though. Whether because of stress, an improper bite, or a range of other reasons, these joints can dysfunction. When this happens, the nerve endings around them can become exposed, resulting in a range of uncomfortable symptoms. Drs. Daniel and Robert Berquist offer TMJ therapy services at our offices in Crown Point, IN and Whiting, IN that will leave your mouth feeling like brand new.
What Are TMJ Symptoms?
- Morning or late afternoon pain and soreness in the jaw
- Clicking or popping when opening or closing your mouth
- Swelling on the side of the face
- Sensitive teeth
- Earaches
- Difficulty opening and closing your mouth
- Upper and lower teeth misalignment (malocclusion)
- Stiffness or “locked” feeling in the jaw when talking, yawning or eating
- Painful chewing, biting or yawning
- Recent bite changes
- Frequent headaches
The exact cause of a person’s TMJ disorder is often difficult to determine. Your pain may be due to a combination of problems, such as arthritis or jaw injury. Some people who have jaw pain also tend to clench or grind their teeth, but many people habitually clench their teeth and never develop TMJ disorders. That is why it is crucial to speak with Drs. Robert and Daniel Berquist to determine whether or not TMJ therapy is right for you.
As part of your treatment consultation, Dr. Robert Berquist and Dr. Daniel Berquist will also talk to you about relaxation techniques and other ways of coping with stress. Avoid chewy or hard foods if you can, as they can aggravate your symptoms. It’s also recommended that you try chewing on alternate sides of your mouth.

Learn All There Is To Know About Dental Implants
Broken teeth, teeth removed due to widespread damage or decay, discolored teeth – it doesn’t matter how it happened; dental implants are a necessary procedure when it comes to replacing those defunct teeth. At Berquist Family Dentistry in Crown Point, IN, we are proud to offer a full selection of advanced dental implants and other restorative dentistry services. Often misunderstood, we’re here to dispel any myths surrounding dental implants.
Dental Implants Overview
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots used to support treatment for a missing tooth or teeth, while simultaneously helping to prevent bone loss. Dental implants aren’t needed just out of thin air – it’s the result of a long process.
But how are teeth lost to begin with? Let’s look at some factors:
- Tooth decay
- Root canal failure
- Gum disease (Periodontitis)
- Trauma to the mouth (tooth injury)
- Excessive wear and tear
- Congenital defects
At some point, dental implants might be the best option for you. There are several benefits to getting this procedure done:
- Improved appearance – they look and feel like real teeth and are permanent.
- Improved speech – you can speak without the worry that teeth might slip.
- Improved comfort – implants eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures.
- Easier eating – implants function like your own teeth, thus allowing you to eat your favorite foods with confidence and without pain.
- Improved self-esteem – get your smile back and feel better about yourself.
- Improved oral health – Because nearby teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own teeth are left intact.
- Durability – they are very durable and, with good care, can last a lifetime.
- Convenience – implants are permanent and never need to be removed, unlike dentures.
As is the case with any dental procedure, it’s best to consult with our professional staff to decide which option, if any, are right for you.

Make Your Smile Shine with Dental Implants in Crown Point, IN
Is your smile lacking its former pizazz? Have you broken a tooth, or had to have teeth removed due to chronic, widespread damage and decay? Berquist Family Dentistry is proud to offer a full selection of advanced dental implants and teeth replacements to patients in Crown Point, IN, and the surrounding communities, including St. John, Cedar Lake, and Hebron.
What Is A Dental Implant?
When a tooth is too damaged to be saved with traditional crowns, fillings, and veneers, it must be removed to prevent the spread of decay to surrounding teeth. To ensure the integrity of your jawbone and bite line, Drs. Robert and Daniel Berquist strongly recommend dental implants. Implants consist of a base installed into the jaw bone, into which the prosthetic replacement teeth or crowns can be installed. They can also anchor permanent bridges or dentures.
Once the totaled tooth (or teeth) is removed, dentists clean the socket and drill a small hole in the jaw bone. They then insert the implant base, which is usually screw- or blade-shaped, and stitch gum tissue closed. The jaw and gums must heal around the implant base in order to ensure the replacement teeth fit as a natural extension of the bite line. After the base has healed, dentists surgically open the gums and attach the dental implants or bridges.
How Long Does A Dental Implant Last?
Done properly, and cared for with a rigorous oral hygiene regimen and biannual dental exams, dental implants can last for 40 years or more. Berquist Family Dentistry will custom craft your replacement teeth so they mesh seamlessly with your natural smile. No one but you will ever know!

Restoring Form & Function with Dental Implants in Whiting, IN & and Crown Point, IN
Your teeth are among your most valuable natural assets, allowing you to speak properly, express emotion with a smile, and to eat the foods that nourish your mind and body. If you are missing even a single tooth, however, the balance and functionality of your entire smile is affected. Fortunately, the team at Berquist Family Dentistry can help. Dr. Robert Jordan Berquist and Dr. Daniel Jorden Berquist proudly serve families from throughout Crown Point, IN and Whiting, IN as well as the surrounding areas, offering a permanent solution to missing teeth: dental implants.
Are Dental Implants Right for Me?
With modern advancements in the field of restorative dentistry, it is now possible to completely replace missing teeth in a way that mimics the smile Mother Nature gave you. Dental implants effectively replace the entire tooth, including the root that supports healthy bone tissue within the jaw. These biocompatible posts are surgically placed within the jaw to serve as sturdy anchors for custom restorations. They are commonly used to support single crowns, bridges, partials, and even full dentures.
A one-on-one consultation with our doctors will aid in determining which restorative dentistry solution best fulfills your needs. Most patients who are missing one or more teeth are good candidates for dental implant placement. Even if the bone density in your jaw isn’t sufficient to support implants, we may be able to recommend a procedure called bone grafting that allows you to continue with your tooth replacement treatment. Our team is always here to answer your questions and to address your concerns, whether you are interested in a simple cosmetic dentistry procedure or a more comprehensive solution like dental implants.
